I've taken a break from the phone for a while. Which probably has something to do with the fact that this is my second blog today. Sorry if you think that is greedy by the way.
It's just that I am a fairly observant person and I always have something to say. Yet lately I dont feel like I can trust words, not "spoken" ones anyway. It's important that you note the difference. See these words that you are reading here across the screen are plain as day. They won't change before your eyes. They are what they are, and as long as nothing happens that blogger.com can't fix they'll be here tomorrow and the next day and so on and so forth. You can print them out if you wish. Keep them in your hope chest, or wallet. They will never change that way. Essentially(I love that word FYI)these words are tangiable ones.
Words that are spoken aren't the same. Once they are said they drift into nothingness and are gone forever. Like if you throw a stone into a well. Once the sound of the stone hitting the sides of the well are gone...and you can no longer see it...it's gone too. Forgotten. Spoken words are that way. Once you can no longer hear them, they are gone, and you can't SEE a spoken word. So someone may remember them, but they may not be the same. They can be repeated but eventually will lose meaning, and fall to the way side of the universe. Words that are spoken change form and then eventually die.
Or worse they are barely heard and then ignored altogether, falling on deaf ears. Or outside circumstances make them impossible to hear. I mean this is exactly why there is written documentation for court cases and other legal situations.
You rarely hear He/She wrote me lies. No they TOLD you lies. Or someone made you a spoken promise, that they have now forgotten. Spoken words can get lost in the music at the club, but the word on the sign that says EXIT is always there. CLEARLY telling you, this way to the safe silence of outside. That silence you are glad for because you were sick of hearing the muffled spoken words.
While reading a book today(I've been reading a lot since I put the phone down)I noticed how good the pages feel. I'm not being sexual. The pages feel real, they are smooth, but if you close your eyes and gently touch the pages you can feel the print. Not like a person who reads with braille, but you can feel the lines that the sentences make. They are ever so slightly raised from the paper. You may not agree...
However, it is something that we can test. That is what makes written words so wonderful. Go pick up your favorite book(I hope that you have one, if you don't that in itself is depressing)and touch the pages. See if you can feel it. Now if I asked you to go back to your favorite conversation you couldn't do they same thing. You can think about it but can you remember it just as it was, or are you off a bit? You can't touch a memory. It becomes a moist imagine in the wrinkles of your brain. Moist, wrinkled, and blurred.
Now keep in mind this isn't actually a contest to see which is better spoken or written words. I'm just saying I don't think I trust spoken words anymore. I'm sure I'll pick the phone up again. I'll just remember this time that what is said can be forgotten and lost.
So you can go and talk to someone now if you'd like. I'm fairly certain that if you check back here in a day or two, a month or more...these words...they'll be here.
